Red Clover + drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate
drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate brand name: Beyaz.
drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate falls into 3 drug categories that Red Clover can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, concomitant use of large amounts of red clover might interfere with estrogen therapy.

These two interact in 3 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 3 Interactions?
Red Clover interacts with whole categories of medication. drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate falls into 3 of those categories, so it can interact with Red Clover in 3 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
ESTROGENS
1 of 3Why this applies to drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate
drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate falls under ESTROGENS — the group Red Clover interacts with.
Red clover contains phytoestrogens which might have estrogenic activity in some people. Theoretically, red clover might compete for estrogen receptors and interfere with estrogen-containing drug therapy.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Beyaz combines the estrogen ethinyl estradiol with the progestin drospirenone (plus a folate). Red clover's plant compounds, called phytoestrogens, can weakly latch onto estrogen receptors in the body. The concern here is theoretical: if red clover competes at those receptors, it might slightly nudge how your body responds to the estrogen in your pill. This idea comes from lab-based pharmacology, not from solid human studies, so the real-world impact is uncertain and likely small with everyday amounts.
Because Beyaz is also doing the important job of preventing pregnancy, I'd rather be cautious than sorry. Watch for things like breakthrough spotting or changes in your cycle, and don't start a concentrated red clover supplement without first checking with your pharmacist or doctor.

CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
2 of 3drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro evidence shows that red clover inhibits CYP1A2. However, a clinical study in healthy postmenopausal individuals shows that taking red clover capsules standardized to contain 60 mg isoflavones twice daily for 14 days does not affect the pharmacokinetics of caffeine, a CYP1A2 probe substrate.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the short version on taking red clover with Beyaz (drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, and levomefolate). In test-tube studies, red clover's isoflavones can slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which plays a small part in handling the estrogen in your pill. In theory, blocking that enzyme could let estrogen levels nudge a bit higher, which might mean more of the usual estrogen-related effects like nausea, breast tenderness, or bloating.
The good news is that this is mostly lab-based thinking. When researchers actually tested red clover in people, it didn't meaningfully change how the body cleared a similar enzyme target. So this interaction is rated minor and unlikely. Still, since red clover also has mild estrogen-like activity of its own, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it, rather than starting or stopping anything on your own.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
3 of 3drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro evidence shows that red clover might inhibit CYP3A4 isoenzymes. However, a clinical study in healthy postmenopausal individuals shows that taking red clover capsules standardized to contain 60 mg isoflavones twice daily for 14 days does not affect the pharmacokinetics of alprazolam, a CYP3A4 probe substrate.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Beyaz combines an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) with a progestin (drospirenone) plus a folate, and the estrogen piece does pass through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Red clover can weakly block that enzyme in the test tube, so the theory is that your birth control hormones might build up a little and you could notice more estrogen-type effects like nausea, breast tenderness, or bloating.
Here's the reassuring part: when researchers actually tested red clover in people, it did not meaningfully change how the body handled a CYP3A4 drug. So this interaction is mostly theoretical and rated minor and unlikely. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since red clover has its own estrogen-like activity, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

About Red Clover
What is Red Clover?
- Menopause symptoms (hot flashes)
- High cholesterol
- Bone health/osteoporosis
- Skin and hair concerns
- Women's health
Red clover is a plant rich in isoflavones (plant compounds with weak estrogen-like activity) that is most often used for menopause symptoms like hot flashes. The evidence is mixed and generally weak, with some studies showing modest benefit and others showing none. Because of its hormone-like effects, it's not for everyone—talk with your pharmacist or doctor before trying it, especially if you have a hormone-sensitive condition.
