Captopril falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, taking tree turmeric along with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can have hypotensive effects. Also, a meta-analysis of clinical research suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine (Norvasc) can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with taking amlodipine alone.

Here's the simple version: tree turmeric (mostly its active compound, berberine) may lower blood pressure on its own. Captopril already works to relax your blood vessels and bring your pressure down, so stacking the two could push your numbers a little lower than expected. That can show up as dizziness, lightheadedness (especially when you stand up quickly), tiredness, or feeling faint.

I want to be honest about how strong this evidence is: it's mostly animal and lab data, plus one human study using a different blood pressure pill, not Captopril itself. So this is more of a theoretical, watch-it situation than a sure thing. If you'd like to try tree turmeric, check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep an eye on your blood pressure at home.

What Is Captopril Used For?

Brand names: Capoten, Acepril

Captopril tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure, and left ventricular dysfunction (weakened pumping function of the heart) in stable patients after a heart attack. For the heart attack indication, it helps improve survival and reduces the chance of developing full heart failure.

Captopril tablets are also used to slow the progression of diabetic nephropathy (kidney damage caused by diabetes) in people with type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetes who have retinopathy and significant protein in their urine. It reduces the risk of the kidneys failing to the point of needing dialysis or a transplant.
