Dextromethorphan, Methscopolamine, Phenylephrine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group 1,3-dmba interacts with.
Animal research shows that 1,3-DMBA has stimulant effects, such as increasing blood pressure and heart rate.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the piece I want you to focus on: your cold and cough product contains phenylephrine, which is itself a stimulant-type ingredient. Phenylephrine tightens blood vessels and can nudge up your blood pressure. 1,3-DMBA is a separate stimulant that, based on animal data, appears to do the very same thing (raising heart rate and blood pressure). Stack two stimulants together and those effects can add up, which is where the real concern lies.
Putting them together could mean a faster or pounding heartbeat, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, or headache. This is a theoretical caution drawn mostly from lab and animal studies, not a proven human reaction, so I won't overstate it. Still, 1,3-DMBA isn't an approved or safe ingredient, so please check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES

In vitro research shows that 1,3-DMBA weakly inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the situation with your cough and cold combo (which includes dextromethorphan for cough, phenylephrine for congestion, and methscopolamine to dry things up). The dextromethorphan part is cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Lab studies suggest 1,3-DMBA weakly slows that enzyme down, so in theory dextromethorphan could build up a bit, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling foggy.
Honestly, this concern is mild and only shown in test-tube research, so it's unlikely to cause real trouble. My bigger worry is that 1,3-DMBA is a risky, FDA-banned stimulant. Stacking it with the phenylephrine in this product could push your heart rate and blood pressure up. Please check with your pharmacist before mixing these.
