Paroxetine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group 1,3-dmba interacts with.

Theoretically, 1,3-DMBA might modestly increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that 1,3-DMBA weakly inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes.

Here's the gist for paroxetine (Paxil): lab studies suggest 1,3-DMBA may weakly block CYP2D6, one of the liver enzymes that helps clear paroxetine. If that happened in real life, paroxetine levels could drift up a little, which might mean more of its usual side effects like drowsiness, nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, or sexual side effects. Paroxetine is the active medicine itself (not a prodrug), so blocking that enzyme tends to raise its effect rather than weaken it.

Honestly though, this is only a theoretical, test-tube finding, and the inhibition is described as weak, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. My bigger worry is 1,3-DMBA itself: it's a banned, unsafe stimulant that can spike your heart rate and blood pressure. I'd steer clear of it and check with your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Paroxetine Used For?

Brand names: Paxil CR, Paxil, Brisdelle

Paroxetine tablets, film-coated tablets, and oral suspensions are approved in adults for major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The extended-release tablet forms (Paxil CR, paroxetine HCL CR, and paroxetine extended-release tablets) are approved in adults for MDD, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

Brisdelle (paroxetine 7.5 mg capsule) and generic paroxetine capsules are approved specifically for moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms (hot flashes) associated with menopause — not for any psychiatric condition. Paroxetine tablets are not approved for use in children.
