Here's the thing to know about Actifed DM: one of its ingredients, pseudoephedrine, is itself a stimulant. It's a decongestant that already nudges your heart rate and blood pressure up a bit. So when you stack it with 1,3-DMBA, which animal studies suggest also raises heart rate and blood pressure, you're essentially doubling up on the same kind of effect. That could mean a racing or pounding heart, jitteriness, a spike in blood pressure, or trouble sleeping.

To be fair, this concern is theoretical and mostly based on animal data, so I'm not trying to alarm you. But honestly, I'd steer clear of 1,3-DMBA entirely (the FDA considers it unsafe), and check with your pharmacist before pairing it with any decongestant.

Theoretically, 1,3-DMBA might modestly increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that 1,3-DMBA weakly inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes.

Here's the gist with Actifed DM (which combines dextromethorphan, pseudoephedrine, and triprolidine). The dextromethorphan part is cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. In lab dishes, 1,3-DMBA weakly slows that enzyme down. In theory, that could let dextromethorphan build up a bit, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or a foggy, off feeling.

But honestly, the bigger worry isn't the enzyme at all. 1,3-DMBA is a banned, risky stimulant, and pseudoephedrine is also a stimulant. Stacking them can push your heart rate and blood pressure up together. This enzyme effect is only theoretical lab data, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but I'd avoid 1,3-DMBA products entirely and check with your pharmacist before combining.
