Ceylon Leadwort + Aspirin, Caffeine
Aspirin, Caffeine brand name: Anacin.
Aspirin, Caffeine falls into 3 drug categories that Ceylon Leadwort can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Plumbagin, a constituent of Ceylon leadwort, has been shown to inhibit cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) in vitro.

These two interact in 3 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 3 Interactions?
Ceylon Leadwort interacts with whole categories of medication. Aspirin, Caffeine falls into 3 of those categories, so it can interact with Ceylon Leadwort in 3 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
1 of 3Why this applies to Aspirin, Caffeine
Aspirin, Caffeine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Ceylon Leadwort interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
The combo pill you're asking about (Anacin) pairs aspirin with caffeine. The piece that matters here is the caffeine, which your liver clears using an enzyme called CYP1A2. In lab dish studies, plumbagin (the active compound in Ceylon Leadwort) appears to slow that same enzyme down. If it did the same thing in people, caffeine could hang around longer and build up.
In plain terms, that might mean more of the usual caffeine effects: a jittery or wired feeling, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, and an upset stomach. The aspirin part isn't really affected by this. The big caveat: this is only test-tube evidence and has never been seen in actual people, so it's theoretical. Still, if you use Ceylon Leadwort regularly, it's worth a quick word with your pharmacist or doctor.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 3Aspirin, Caffeine also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest picture with Anacin (aspirin plus caffeine) and Ceylon Leadwort. The concern on file is that plumbagin, a compound in this plant, slowed down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 in lab tests. In theory, blocking that enzyme could let certain drugs build up. But I want to be straight with you: this was only seen in test tube and animal studies, never reported in real people, so it stays mostly theoretical.
On top of that, aspirin and caffeine aren't mainly cleared by CYP3A4, so this particular pathway isn't a great match for them. If anything shifted, you might notice more caffeine-type jitteriness or stomach upset from aspirin, but that's speculative. Run it by your pharmacist before combining them, just to be safe.

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
3 of 3Aspirin, Caffeine also falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Anacin, which combines aspirin (a blood thinner that keeps platelets from clumping) and caffeine. Ceylon Leadwort may have its own mild blood-thinning action. In animal studies, its root extract reduced platelet stickiness and made bleeding last longer. Stack that on top of aspirin and you could, in theory, nudge your bleeding risk up a bit, things like easier bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding that's slower to stop.
I'll be honest though: this concern comes from lab and animal work, not human trials, so it's more a caution than a proven problem. The caffeine part isn't really involved here. Before pairing them, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you bruise or bleed easily.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aspirin, Caffeine page
“Anacin combines aspirin with caffeine, so supplements can hit it from two directions, and a few of the 347 on this list deserve real respect. The biggest group, over 200 ingredients, can raise bleeding risk on top of aspirin's blood-thinning effect; beer and wine carry major ratings because alcohol plus an aspirin-type drug makes stoma…”

- Digestive complaints and poor appetite
- Skin conditions and wounds (applied to the skin)
- Joint pain and swelling
- Traditional 'metabolism-boosting' tonics
- Antimicrobial folk remedy
Ceylon Leadwort (Plumbago zeylanica) is a plant long used in Ayurvedic and other traditional medicine systems, mainly for digestion, skin problems, and pain. Solid human studies are lacking, and the plant contains plumbagin, a compound that can irritate skin and tissues and may be unsafe in larger amounts. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it in pregnancy.
