STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Diphenhydramine, Pseudoephedrine
Diphenhydramine, Pseudoephedrine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Cola Nut interacts with.
Cola nut contains caffeine. Due to the central nervous system (CNS) stimulant effects of caffeine, concomitant use with stimulant drugs can increase the risk of adverse effects.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version. Cola nut is basically a natural source of caffeine, and the pseudoephedrine in Actifed Allergy is itself a stimulant decongestant. Stacking a stimulant on top of a stimulant can add up. You might feel more jittery or anxious, notice a faster or pounding heartbeat, have trouble sleeping, or see a bump in your blood pressure.
This is mostly an expert-opinion, theoretical concern rather than something proven in big studies, so a small amount of cola nut may not cause trouble for everyone. Still, if you have high blood pressure or any heart issues, that combo deserves extra caution. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, especially with concentrated cola nut supplements.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Diphenhydramine, Pseudoephedrine page
“This medicine pulls in two directions at once, which is exactly why the supplement list for diphenhydramine and pseudoephedrine (Actifed Allergy) is not one to skim. The antihistamine half is sedating, so anything else that slows the brain deepens drowsiness; beer, wine, and kava all carry major ratings, with alcohol the best documented.”

About Cola Nut
What is Cola Nut?
- Energy and alertness
- Mental focus
- Physical performance
- Weight loss support
- Traditional digestive aid
Cola nut is a caffeine-containing seed from West Africa used mainly as a natural stimulant for energy and alertness.
