Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: your Claritin-D contains pseudoephedrine, which is itself a stimulant. It can speed up your heart a little, nudge your blood pressure up, and sometimes leave you feeling jittery or wide awake at night. Cola nut adds caffeine on top of that, so you're basically stacking two stimulants together.

This isn't about one blocking or speeding up the other in your liver. It's more straightforward, the effects just pile on. You might notice a faster or pounding heartbeat, restlessness, trouble sleeping, or feeling wired. This concern is mostly based on expert opinion rather than hard studies, and an occasional cola-flavored drink probably won't do much. But regular concentrated cola nut supplements are worth running by your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you have heart issues or high blood pressure.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Loratadine, Pseudoephedrine page

“Claritin D pairs an antihistamine with pseudoephedrine, a decongestant that raises heart rate and blood pressure, and that stimulant half is why I would want anyone taking it to read this page carefully before adding a supplement. The largest cluster of interactions changes how the body clears the medication: grapefruit slows the break…”

About Cola Nut

What is Cola Nut?

Cola Nut
  • Energy and alertness
  • Mental focus
  • Physical performance
  • Weight loss support
  • Traditional digestive aid

Cola nut is a caffeine-containing seed from West Africa used mainly as a natural stimulant for energy and alertness. Because of its caffeine content, people sensitive to stimulants and those who are pregnant or have heart conditions should be cautious.
