These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Lentinan interacts with whole categories of medication. Ethiny Estradiol, Levonorgestrel falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Lentinan in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Ethiny Estradiol, Levonorgestrel
Ethiny Estradiol, Levonorgestrel falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Lentinan interacts with.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 include amitriptyline (Elavil), haloperidol (Haldol), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), theophylline (Theo-Dur, others), verapamil (Calan, Isoptin, others), and others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for your birth control pill (the ethinyl estradiol plus levonorgestrel combination in Microgynon and Logynon). Lab studies hint that lentinan may speed up an enzyme called CYP1A2, which is one of the pathways your body uses to break down the estrogen part of your pill. If that enzyme runs faster, hormone levels could in theory drop a little lower, and with the pill the worry with lower levels is reduced reliability or some breakthrough spotting.
Now the reassuring part: this is only test-tube and animal evidence, and it has never actually been seen in people. Estrogen also uses other enzymes (mainly CYP3A4), so CYP1A2 isn't the whole story. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since this pill protects against pregnancy, mention the lentinan to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Ethiny Estradiol, Levonorgestrel also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for your birth control pill (Microgynon, Logynon). Both the estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and the progestin (levonorgestrel) are partly broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab and animal studies hint that lentinan might speed up that enzyme. If that happened in people, your body could clear the hormones a little faster, which in theory might lower their levels and, at the far end, reduce how reliably the pill prevents pregnancy.
I want to keep this in perspective. This is only a test-tube and animal finding, and it has not been seen in real patients, so the risk is uncertain and likely small. Still, since a pregnancy is a high-stakes outcome, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ethiny Estradiol, Levonorgestrel page
“A supplement that lowers hormone levels in a birth control pill can mean an unplanned pregnancy, and St. John's wort can do exactly that to ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel (Logynon, Microgynon 30 ED) by speeding up how your liver clears the hormones.”

About Lentinan
What is Lentinan?
- Immune support
- Used alongside cancer treatment
- Anti-inflammatory
- General wellness/tonic
- Antimicrobial support
Lentinan is a beta-glucan polysaccharide from shiitake mushrooms that is studied mainly as an immune-modulating add-on to cancer chemotherapy, where it is given by injection in a few countries. Evidence for oral supplements is limited, and quality varies widely between products. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a health condition or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
