Laboratory evidence suggests that lentinan might increase the activity of cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for a decrease in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 in patients taking lentinan.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 include amitriptyline (Elavil), haloperidol (Haldol), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), theophylline (Theo-Dur, others), verapamil (Calan, Isoptin, others), and others.

You're asking about your Ortho Evra patch, which delivers two hormones: norelgestromin (a progestin) and ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen). Here's the idea on paper: lentinan, in lab dishes, seems to speed up an enzyme called CYP1A2. Ethinyl estradiol is partly handled by that enzyme, so in theory, a faster enzyme could clear it out quicker and leave a bit less hormone in your system.

What would that mean in real life? Possibly slightly weaker birth control coverage or some breakthrough spotting. But I want to be honest with you: this is only seen in laboratory and animal studies, never confirmed in people, so it's far from certain. Since an unplanned pregnancy is a big deal, I'd just run it by your pharmacist or doctor before adding lentinan.

Laboratory research suggests that lentinan might increase the activity of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for a decrease in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking lentinan.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Your Ortho Evra patch delivers two hormones, ethinyl estradiol and norelgestromin, and your liver clears the estrogen part using an enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies hint that lentinan might speed up that enzyme. If that happens in real life, your body could break down the hormones a little faster, which in theory might lower how much protection you get and could lead to breakthrough bleeding or spotting, or even reduced birth control reliability.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's based only on test-tube and animal research, and nothing like it has actually been seen in people. So this is more of a 'keep an eye out' note than a real alarm. Still, since reliable contraception matters, it's worth running it by your pharmacist or doctor before adding lentinan.
