Lentinan + Segesterone Acetate, Ethinyl Estradiol
Segesterone Acetate, Ethinyl Estradiol brand name: Annovera.
Segesterone Acetate, Ethinyl Estradiol falls into 2 drug categories that Lentinan can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Laboratory evidence suggests that lentinan might increase the activity of cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2).

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Lentinan interacts with whole categories of medication. Segesterone Acetate, Ethinyl Estradiol falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Lentinan in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Segesterone Acetate, Ethinyl Estradiol
Segesterone Acetate, Ethinyl Estradiol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Lentinan interacts with.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 include amitriptyline (Elavil), haloperidol (Haldol), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), theophylline (Theo-Dur, others), verapamil (Calan, Isoptin, others), and others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
If you're using Annovera (the vaginal ring with segesterone and ethinyl estradiol), here's the gist. Lab studies hint that lentinan might speed up an enzyme called CYP1A2, which is one of the pathways your body uses to break down ethinyl estradiol. In theory, faster breakdown could lower your hormone levels a little, and with birth control that raises a concern about it working less reliably.
That said, this is only test-tube and animal data, and it has never actually been seen in people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since this is birth control, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding lentinan, just so you stay protected.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Segesterone Acetate, Ethinyl Estradiol also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Annovera is a vaginal ring that releases two hormones, segesterone acetate and ethinyl estradiol, to prevent pregnancy. Both of these hormones are broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab research hints that lentinan might speed that enzyme up. If that happened in real life, your body could clear the hormones a little faster, which in theory could lower their levels and make the ring slightly less reliable, sometimes showing up as breakthrough spotting or bleeding.
Here's the honest part: this is only a test-tube and animal finding, and it has never been reported in people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since an unintended pregnancy is a big deal, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding lentinan.

About Lentinan
What is Lentinan?
- Immune support
- Used alongside cancer treatment
- Anti-inflammatory
- General wellness/tonic
- Antimicrobial support
Lentinan is a beta-glucan polysaccharide from shiitake mushrooms that is studied mainly as an immune-modulating add-on to cancer chemotherapy, where it is given by injection in a few countries. Evidence for oral supplements is limited, and quality varies widely between products. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a health condition or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
