Moringa + Loperamide
Loperamide brand names: Imodium, Loperamide.
Moringa has a moderate interaction with Loperamide. Theoretically, moringa leaf extract might increase the levels and clinical effects of P-glycoprotein substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Loperamide
Loperamide falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Moringa interacts with.
In vitro research shows that moringa leaf extract inhibits renal P-glycoprotein transport activity. So far, this reaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with loperamide (Imodium) and moringa. Your body uses a kind of cellular bouncer called P-glycoprotein to push loperamide back out and keep it from building up where it shouldn't, especially around the brain. Lab studies suggest concentrated moringa leaf extract may slow that bouncer down. In theory, that could let a little more loperamide hang around, which might mean stronger effects like constipation, stomach cramping, or drowsiness.
I want to be honest, though: this is only seen in test-tube and animal research, and it has not been reported in real people. Food-sized amounts of moringa are unlikely to matter much. If you take loperamide regularly or use concentrated moringa supplements, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up first.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Loperamide page
“Loperamide (Imodium) works safely in part because a gut transporter, P-glycoprotein, keeps most of each dose out of the bloodstream, and the biggest group on this list, 37 ingredients, acts on that transporter. St.”

About Moringa
What is Moringa?
- Nutritional supplement
- Blood sugar support
- Cholesterol support
- Inflammation
- Skin conditions
Moringa is a nutrient-rich plant whose leaves are widely used as a food and supplement, especially in parts of the world where malnutrition is common. Early research hints at possible benefits for blood sugar, cholesterol, and inflammation, but the human evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using moringa, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medications.
About Loperamide
What Is Loperamide Used For?
Brand names: Imodium, Loperamide
Loperamide controls the symptoms of diarrhea, including traveler's diarrhea, in adults and children 2 years and older. It is available as tablets, capsules, oral solution, and oral suspension across many brand names.
Loperamide Hydrochloride and Loperamide HCl capsules are also approved for chronic diarrhea in adults associated with inflammatory bowel disease, and for reducing the volume of discharge from an ileostomy (a surgical opening in the abdomen that drains waste).
