Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Carisoprodol
Carisoprodol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Red Clover interacts with.
In vitro evidence suggests that red clover weakly inhibits CYP2C19. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the gist for Soma (carisoprodol). Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2C19 to help process this muscle relaxer. Red clover, in lab studies only, seems to mildly slow that same enzyme down. In theory, that could let a little more carisoprodol hang around, which might make its usual effects, like drowsiness, dizziness, and that sluggish, heavy-headed feeling, a bit stronger.
That said, I don't want you to lose sleep over this. This is a theoretical, weak interaction that has never actually been reported in real people, and it's rated minor and unlikely. Still, since carisoprodol already makes plenty of folks sleepy, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing the two, especially if you'll be driving.

About Red Clover
What is Red Clover?
- Menopause symptoms (hot flashes)
- High cholesterol
- Bone health/osteoporosis
- Skin and hair concerns
- Women's health
Red clover is a plant rich in isoflavones (plant compounds with weak estrogen-like activity) that is most often used for menopause symptoms like hot flashes. The evidence is mixed and generally weak, with some studies showing modest benefit and others showing none. Because of its hormone-like effects, it's not for everyone—talk with your pharmacist or doctor before trying it, especially if you have a hormone-sensitive condition.
About Carisoprodol
What Is Carisoprodol Used For?
Brand names: Soma, Rela
Carisoprodol tablets — sold under the brand name Soma, as well as generic versions — are used to relieve discomfort associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions in adults. Think short-term muscle pain and stiffness from things like lower back injuries.
This medication is intended only for short-term use — up to two or three weeks. It has not been proven effective for longer-term use, and the muscle conditions it treats are generally short-lived by nature.
