Tiratricol is related to thyroid hormones, such as levothyroxine, which can interfere with blood glucose control and necessitate adjustment of diabetes drug therapy. It is not known if tiratricol has these effects.

Here's the situation with pork insulin and tiratricol. Insulin isn't a prodrug, so this isn't about your liver activating it. The concern is simpler: tiratricol acts like the thyroid hormone T3, and thyroid hormones can rev up your metabolism and change how your body handles sugar. That can shift your blood glucose around and make your usual insulin dose either too much or too little.

I'll be honest with you, this one is theoretical. We don't have real proof tiratricol does this, it's just expected based on how thyroid hormones behave. The bigger issue is that tiratricol itself is an unapproved, risky substance the FDA warns against, especially with a heart-stressing drug situation. Please don't use it, and talk with your doctor before changing any insulin dose.
