Tiratricol is related to thyroid hormones, such as levothyroxine, which can interfere with blood glucose control and necessitate adjustment of diabetes drug therapy. It is not known if tiratricol has these effects.

Here's the thing about tiratricol: it acts a lot like your thyroid hormone, and thyroid hormones tend to push blood sugar up. So the worry here is that taking tiratricol could work against your metformin, making it harder to keep your sugars where you want them. You might notice more thirst, more bathroom trips, or higher numbers on your meter than usual.

I want to be honest with you: this is a theoretical concern based on how these substances behave, not something proven with metformin specifically. The bigger issue, frankly, is tiratricol itself. The FDA has warned against it because it can strain your heart and thyroid. I'd steer clear of it and talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using any product that contains it.

Metformin is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is always used together with diet and exercise, not instead of them.

Metformin hydrochloride tablets and oral solution are approved for adults and children 10 years and older. Metformin hydrochloride extended-release tablets — including brands such as Fortamet, Glumetza, and Metformin Hydrochloride Extended Release — are approved for adults only.
