Why this applies to Bivalirudin

Bivalirudin falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Tiratricol interacts with.

Theoretically, tiratricol might increase the hypoprothrombinemic effects of oral anticoagulants.
Tiratricol is related to thyroid hormones such as levothyroxine. The hypoprothrombinemic effects of oral anticoagulants, including warfarin (Coumadin), are increased by levothyroxine due to increased catabolism of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors. It is not known if tiratricol has a similar effect.

Here's the honest picture for bivalirudin (Angiomax). The concern on file comes from how thyroid-type compounds like tiratricol can boost the effect of blood thinners that work through vitamin K dependent clotting factors, the way warfarin does. The catch is that bivalirudin does not work that way at all. It's a direct thrombin inhibitor given by IV in a hospital, usually during procedures like angioplasty, and it doesn't rely on vitamin K factors or liver enzymes the way warfarin does.

So this particular mechanism likely doesn't apply cleanly to bivalirudin, and the whole interaction is theoretical to begin with. That said, anything that thins your blood raises bleeding risk, and tiratricol itself is an unsafe, FDA-warned product you shouldn't be taking. Please run this by your doctor or pharmacist.
