Theoretically, cholestyramine might decrease the absorption of tiratricol.
Tiratricol is related to thyroid hormones such as levothyroxine. Absorption of levothyroxine is reduced by cholestyramine. It is not known if tiratricol absorption is affected.

First things first: tiratricol (TRIAC) is not a safe supplement. The FDA has warned people away from it because it acts like a strong thyroid hormone and can cause serious heart and thyroid trouble. So my honest advice is to steer clear of it entirely.

As for the interaction itself, cholestyramine works by binding things in your gut so they get carried out instead of absorbed. It's known to grab onto levothyroxine (a thyroid medicine) and lower how much gets into you. Since tiratricol is chemically similar, the thinking is it might get bound up the same way, meaning less of it absorbed. This is theory only, based on how the drug behaves, not proven studies. Bottom line: don't use tiratricol, and check with your pharmacist or doctor about anything you're taking.

What Is Cholestyramine Resin Used For?

  • Cholestyramine is used with diet changes (restriction of cholesterol and fat intake) to reduce the amount of cholesterol and certain fatty substances in your blood. Accumulation of cholesterol and fats along the walls of your arteries (a process known as atherosclerosis) decreases blood flow and, therefore, the oxygen supply to your heart, brain, and other parts of your body. Lowering your blood level of cholesterol and fats may help to prevent heart disease, angina (chest pain), strokes, and heart attacks.
