Encorafenib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Yerba Mate interacts with.

Theoretically, yerba mate might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that yerba mate extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking yerba mate may increase levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the simple version. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear encorafenib (Braftovi) out of your system. In lab dish studies, yerba mate appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in a real person, encorafenib could build up a bit higher than expected, which might mean more of its known side effects, things like fatigue, joint or muscle aches, nausea, headache, and skin changes.

That said, the evidence here is weak. It comes only from test-tube research, not from people drinking mate, so this is more theoretical than proven. A casual cup probably matters far less than concentrated mate supplements. Since encorafenib is a serious cancer drug, please run your mate or supplement habit past your oncologist or pharmacist before relying on either way.

About Encorafenib

What Is Encorafenib Used For?

Brand name: Braftovi

Braftovi is used to treat cancers that have a specific change (mutation) in a gene called BRAF — specifically the V600E or V600K mutation, which must be confirmed by an FDA-authorized test before starting treatment. It is always used in combination with other medicines, never alone as standard therapy.

Braftovi (in combination with binimetinib) treats unresectable or metastatic melanoma with a BRAF V600E or V600K mutation. For metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) with a BRAF V600E mutation, Braftovi is used either with cetuximab and fluorouracil-based chemotherapy, or with cetuximab alone after prior therapy. Braftovi (in combination with binimetinib) also treats metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with a BRAF V600E mutation.
