If you enjoy yerba mate while using human insulin, the concern is pretty mild. Insulin isn't broken down by liver enzymes the way many pills are, so mate won't change how your body clears it. Instead, the caffeine in mate could nudge your blood sugar a little. Reports are mixed, with some suggesting it can raise blood sugar and others suggesting it can lower it, so the effect isn't predictable.

The evidence here is thin and the interaction is considered unlikely and minor. A cup or two probably won't cause trouble, but since insulin already lowers your sugar, just keep an eye out for shakiness, sweating, or feeling lightheaded (signs of a low). If your numbers seem off after adding mate, check with your pharmacist or doctor.

Novolin (human insulin injection) is used to improve glycemic control — meaning blood sugar management — in adults and children with diabetes mellitus.

Novolin 70/30 is a fixed-ratio mixture of intermediate-acting and short-acting human insulin. Because the ratio is fixed, it cannot be adjusted separately for background (basal) or mealtime (prandial) needs.
