Ribociclib Succinate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Yerba Mate interacts with.

Theoretically, yerba mate might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that yerba mate extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking yerba mate may increase levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down ribociclib (Kisqali). Lab studies hint that yerba mate may slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in real life, ribociclib could clear more slowly and build up, which in theory might mean a little more of its known side effects, things like low white blood cell counts, nausea, tiredness, or changes to your heart's rhythm (QT prolongation).

That said, this is very weak evidence (only test-tube research, not people), and it's rated a minor, possible interaction. An occasional cup of mate is unlikely to be a problem. Still, ribociclib is a serious cancer medicine, so before drinking it regularly, please check with your oncologist or pharmacist so they can guide you.

What Is Ribociclib Used For?

Brand name: Kisqali

Kisqali (ribociclib) tablets are used in adults with hormone receptor (HR)-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. For early breast cancer (stage II or III, at high risk of coming back), Kisqali is given alongside an aromatase inhibitor as adjuvant treatment — meaning treatment after initial surgery to reduce the risk of the cancer returning.

For advanced or metastatic breast cancer (cancer that has spread), Kisqali is used in combination with either an aromatase inhibitor or fulvestrant — as the first hormonal treatment tried, or after the cancer has grown despite prior hormone therapy.
