Tepotinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Yerba Mate interacts with.

Theoretically, yerba mate might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that yerba mate extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking yerba mate may increase levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down and clear tepotinib. Lab studies suggest yerba mate can slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, that could let tepotinib build up slightly higher in your blood, which might mean more of its usual side effects, things like swelling (especially in the legs or around the eyes), nausea, diarrhea, low appetite, or tiredness.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It comes only from test-tube research, not from real people, so we don't actually know if a cup or two of mate would change anything. Still, since tepotinib is a serious cancer medicine, it's worth a quick chat with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding regular mate. Don't stop or change anything on your own.

What Is Tepotinib Used For?

Tepmetko (tepotinib) is used to treat adults with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) — lung cancer that has spread — whose tumors carry a specific genetic alteration called a MET exon 14 skipping mutation. A test on tumor tissue or blood is required to confirm this mutation before treatment begins.

This is a targeted therapy, meaning it works against a specific molecular driver of cancer growth rather than attacking all rapidly dividing cells.
