1,3-dmba and Mirtazapine

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Minor

CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES

Why this applies to Mirtazapine

Mirtazapine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group 1,3-dmba interacts with.

Theoretically, 1,3-DMBA might modestly increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that 1,3-DMBA weakly inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes.
Severity Minor Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the gist for Remeron (mirtazapine): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 as one of the ways it clears this drug. Lab dish studies suggest 1,3-DMBA may weakly block that enzyme. In theory, that could let a bit more mirtazapine linger in your system, which might nudge up its usual effects like drowsiness, dry mouth, increased appetite, or feeling foggy.

Honestly, this concern is small and only based on test-tube data, not real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over the interaction itself. My bigger worry is the 1,3-DMBA. It's a banned, unproven stimulant tied to serious heart and stroke risks, and pairing a stimulant with an antidepressant isn't wise. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using anything containing it.
