Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Abiraterone Acetate
Abiraterone Acetate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for your prostate cancer medicine. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear abiraterone from your body. In lab studies (test tube, not people), chanca piedra appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that holds true in real life, abiraterone could build up a bit higher than expected, which in theory might mean stronger effects and a greater chance of side effects like high blood pressure, swelling in the legs, low potassium, fatigue, or stress on the liver.
I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical concern based on lab work, and it has not been seen in actual patients. Still, abiraterone is a serious cancer drug, so please run any chanca piedra use by your oncologist or pharmacist first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Abiraterone Acetate page
“Six of the 171 supplement and herbal interactions on file for abiraterone acetate (Zytiga, Yonsa) are rated major, and with an advanced prostate cancer treatment there is little margin for a drug level that drifts, so these pairings deserve genuine care. About Chanca Piedra
What is Chanca Piedra?
- Kidney stones
- Gallstones
- Liver support
- Urinary tract health
- Digestive complaints
Chanca piedra is a tropical herb traditionally used as a 'stone breaker' for kidney and gallstones, and for liver and urinary health. Human evidence for these uses is limited and mostly small or preliminary, so it should not replace proven treatments. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a medical condition or take medications.
About Abiraterone
What Is Abiraterone Used For?
Brand names: Zytiga, Yonsa
Abiraterone acetate tablets are used to treat two types of advanced prostate cancer: metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC — cancer that has spread and keeps growing despite low testosterone levels) and metastatic high-risk castration-sensitive prostate cancer (CSPC — cancer that has spread but still responds to hormone-lowering treatment). It is always taken together with a corticosteroid — most products pair with prednisone, while Yonsa is specifically indicated with methylprednisolone.
All products — including Abiraterone, Abiraterone Acetate, Abirtega, Yonsa, and Zytiga — are taken by mouth as a tablet. Yonsa is approved only for metastatic CRPC, while the other products (Abiraterone, Abiraterone Acetate, Abirtega, and Zytiga) are approved for both metastatic CRPC and metastatic high-risk CSPC.
