Why this applies to Anagrelide

Anagrelide falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research suggests that methyl brevifolincarboxylate, a constituent isolated from chanca piedra, can inhibit platelet aggregation. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the basic idea: anagrelide already lowers your platelet count and can make it a little harder for your blood to clot. In lab studies, one compound found in chanca piedra appeared to keep platelets from sticking together too. So in theory, pairing the two could add up and nudge your bleeding risk a bit higher.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. This effect has only been seen in a test tube, not in actual people, so we're talking about a theoretical concern, not something well documented. Still, with anagrelide it's worth watching for things like easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that are slow to stop. Before you add chanca piedra, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Anagrelide also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, chanca piedra might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract increases CYP1A2 activity. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates and lower serum concentrations. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for anagrelide (Agrylin). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to break this medicine down. Lab studies (in test tubes, not people) suggest chanca piedra may speed that enzyme up. In theory, that could clear anagrelide out of your body a little faster, which might make it less effective at holding your platelet count down.

If that happened, your platelets could creep back up, which is the very thing this drug is meant to control. I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical concern from early research and has never been reported in actual patients. Still, since keeping platelets in range really matters, I'd run it past your pharmacist or doctor before adding chanca piedra.

What Is Anagrelide Used For?

Brand name: Agrylin

Anagrelide — sold as Agrylin and as generic anagrelide capsules — is used to treat thrombocythemia secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms. That means it's prescribed when a bone marrow disorder causes the body to produce too many platelets, raising the risk of dangerous blood clots.

By bringing platelet counts down to a safer range, anagrelide also helps reduce related symptoms, including bleeding and clotting events (thrombo-hemorrhagic events).
