Capmatinib Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, use of chanca piedra might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the basic idea with capmatinib (Tabrecta). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this cancer medication out. Lab studies suggest chanca piedra may slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, capmatinib could build up to higher levels than intended, which can mean more of its known side effects, things like nausea, vomiting, swelling in the arms or legs, tiredness, and changes in liver tests.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This is only seen in test-tube research and has never actually been reported in people, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, capmatinib is a serious drug, so please run any chanca piedra past your oncology team or pharmacist before combining them.

What Is Capmatinib Used For?

Brand name: Tabrecta

Tabrecta (capmatinib) is used to treat adults with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) — lung cancer that has spread — whose tumors carry a specific genetic change called a MET exon 14 skipping mutation. A patient must test positive for this mutation using an FDA-approved test before starting treatment.

This is a targeted therapy, meaning it works against tumors with this particular genetic driver rather than all lung cancers.
