Darunavir falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, use of chanca piedra might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with Darunavir (Prezista): your body clears it using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab tests, chanca piedra appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, darunavir could build up a bit higher than usual, which might mean more of its typical side effects like nausea, diarrhea, headache, rash, or changes in liver enzymes.

I want to be honest about the strength here, though. This is only test-tube research and has never been confirmed in actual people, so it's more of a theoretical concern than a proven problem. Since darunavir is part of your HIV regimen and keeping levels steady matters, don't start or stop anything on your own. Just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on things.

About Darunavir

What Is Darunavir Used For?

Brand name: Prezista

Darunavir treats HIV-1 infection in adults and in children who are at least 3 years old and weigh at least 10 kg (about 22 lbs). It is not a cure for HIV, but it is used as part of a combination antiretroviral regimen to control the virus.

Darunavir must always be taken together with ritonavir — that pairing is required for darunavir to work properly. Both Prezista (brand name) and generic darunavir tablets are approved for this use. Prezista is also available as an oral suspension, which is particularly useful for younger or smaller patients.
