Elbasvir, Grazoprevir falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, use of chanca piedra might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Your hepatitis C combo, Zepatier (elbasvir and grazoprevir), is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Chanca piedra has been shown in lab dish studies to slow that enzyme down. In theory, if that enzyme works slower, more of the medication could linger in your body, which might nudge up side effects like tiredness, headache, nausea, or changes in your liver blood tests. Neither of these is a prodrug, so the concern would be a bit too much drug, not too little.

Here's the honest part: this is only a test-tube finding, and it has never actually been seen in real people. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since you're treating your liver, it's smart to run chanca piedra past your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

What Is Elbasvir and Grazoprevir Used For?

Brand name: Zepatier

Zepatier treats chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1 or genotype 4 infection in adults and children 12 years of age and older (or weighing at least 30 kg). It works for people who have never been treated before as well as those who have tried certain other treatments.

Depending on the specific genotype and treatment history, Zepatier may be prescribed on its own or combined with another antiviral medicine called ribavirin. Your prescriber will determine the right combination and length of treatment for your situation.
