Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Gefitinib
Gefitinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for gefitinib (Iressa). Your body clears this cancer medicine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab tests, chanca piedra appears to slow that enzyme down. If it does the same thing in people, gefitinib could build up higher than expected, which may mean more of its usual side effects like diarrhea, skin rash or acne-like breakouts, nausea, mouth sores, or, less commonly, liver irritation.
I want to be honest about the strength of this: it comes from test tube research only and has never actually been reported in a person taking gefitinib. So it's a theoretical concern, not a proven one. Still, gefitinib is serious cancer therapy, so please don't add chanca piedra without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

About Chanca Piedra
What is Chanca Piedra?
- Kidney stones
- Gallstones
- Liver support

- Digestive complaints
Chanca piedra is a tropical herb traditionally used as a 'stone breaker' for kidney and gallstones, and for liver and urinary health.
