Modafinil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, use of chanca piedra might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist of it: your body relies partly on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear modafinil. Chanca piedra has been shown in test-tube studies to slow that enzyme down. If that were to happen in real life, modafinil could hang around a bit longer and feel stronger than usual. With this drug, that might mean more headache, jitteriness, a racing heart, trouble sleeping, anxiety, or loss of appetite.

The important caveat: this is purely theoretical. It comes only from lab research and has never actually been reported in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you take modafinil daily, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding chanca piedra, just so someone can keep an eye on how you feel.

About Modafinil

What Is Modafinil Used For?

Brand names: Provigil, Sparlon, Alertec

Modafinil (also sold as Provigil) is used to improve wakefulness in adults who experience excessive sleepiness due to narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), or shift work disorder (SWD).

In OSA, modafinil treats the sleepiness — not the underlying airway obstruction itself. It is used alongside standard treatments such as CPAP (a breathing device worn during sleep), not as a replacement for them. If CPAP is appropriate for you, your doctor will want you to use it consistently even while taking modafinil.
