STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Chlorpheniramine Tannate, Phenylephrine Tannate
Chlorpheniramine Tannate, Phenylephrine Tannate falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Cola Nut interacts with.
Cola nut contains caffeine. Due to the central nervous system (CNS) stimulant effects of caffeine, concomitant use with stimulant drugs can increase the risk of adverse effects.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the thing to know about this combo. Your medicine pairs an antihistamine (chlorpheniramine) with a decongestant called phenylephrine. That decongestant is a mild stimulant on its own. Cola nut is basically a caffeine source, so you'd be stacking one stimulant on top of another.
When you do that, you can bump into the usual caffeine-plus-decongestant effects: a faster or pounding heartbeat, jitteriness, feeling wired, trouble sleeping, or a slightly higher blood pressure. This is mostly an added effects issue, not one supplement changing how the other is broken down, and the warning is based on expert opinion rather than hard studies. If you have heart trouble, high blood pressure, or you're sensitive to caffeine, please run this by your pharmacist or doctor first.
