Here's the concern with these two together: Kynamro (mipomersen) is already known to be tough on the liver. It can raise liver enzymes and cause fat to build up in the liver, which is why people on it get regular blood tests to watch their liver. Ephedra has its own track record of causing liver injury in some users.

The worry is that stacking them could add up and stress the liver more. To be fair, this is a theoretical concern based on how each one behaves, not proven cases of the two combined. Still, ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements for good reason, and I wouldn't pair it with a liver-sensitive drug like this. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor about safer options.

About Mipomersen Injection

What Is Mipomersen Injection Used For?

Brand name: Kynamro

  • Mipomersen injection is used to decrease levels of cholesterol and other fatty substances in the blood in people who have homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH; a rare inherited condition that causes very high levels of cholesterol in the blood, increasing the risk of serious heart disease). Some people with HoFH may be treated with LDL apheresis (a procedure that removes LDL from the blood), but mipomersen injection should not be used along with this treatment. Mipomersen injection should not be used to decrease cholesterol levels in people who do not have HoFH. Mipomersen injection is in a class of medications called antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) inhibitors. It works by preventing certain fatty substances from forming in the body.
