Azilsartan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Red Clover interacts with.

Theoretically, red clover might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9; however, a small clinical study found no effect.
In vitro evidence suggests that red clover might inhibit CYP2C9. However, a clinical study in healthy postmenopausal individuals shows that taking red clover capsules standardized to contain 60 mg isoflavones twice daily for 14 days does not affect the pharmacokinetics of tolbutamide, a CYP2C9 probe substrate.

Here's the gist for Edarbi (azilsartan): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2C9 to help process this blood pressure medicine. In a test tube, red clover's plant estrogens looked like they might slow that enzyme down, which in theory could let a bit more azilsartan build up. If that happened, you might notice slightly lower blood pressure, with effects like dizziness, lightheadedness, or feeling tired.

The reassuring part is that this is only a lab-based concern. When researchers actually gave people standardized red clover and checked a similar CYP2C9 drug, they saw no real change. So a meaningful interaction is unlikely. Still, if you take azilsartan and want to try red clover, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first, especially given its hormone-like activity.

What Is Azilsartan Used For?

Brand name: Edarbi

Azilsartan medoxomil tablets — sold as both the generic Azilsartan Medoxomil and the brand Edarbi — are approved to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. Bringing blood pressure down lowers the risk of serious cardiovascular events, especially stroke and heart attack.

The medication can be used on its own or alongside other blood pressure medicines. It is not a cure for high blood pressure, and managing the condition fully often involves lifestyle steps like limiting sodium, exercising, and quitting smoking.
