Torsemide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Red Clover interacts with.

Theoretically, red clover might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9; however, a small clinical study found no effect.
In vitro evidence suggests that red clover might inhibit CYP2C9. However, a clinical study in healthy postmenopausal individuals shows that taking red clover capsules standardized to contain 60 mg isoflavones twice daily for 14 days does not affect the pharmacokinetics of tolbutamide, a CYP2C9 probe substrate.

Here's the gist for torsemide and red clover. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to help break down torsemide. In a test-tube setting, red clover's plant compounds (isoflavones) looked like they might slow that enzyme down a little. If that actually happened in people, torsemide could linger longer and push its effects, like extra urination, dizziness, low blood pressure, or dehydration.

But here's the reassuring part: this is only a theoretical, lab-based concern. When researchers tested red clover in real people using a similar CYP2C9 drug, they saw no meaningful change. So a real-world problem is unlikely. Still, if you take torsemide daily, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist before adding red clover.

Red clover is a plant rich in isoflavones (plant compounds with weak estrogen-like activity) that is most often used for menopause symptoms like hot flashes. What Is Torsemide Used For?

Torsemide tablets are used to treat edema — excess fluid buildup causing swelling — associated with heart failure, renal disease, or hepatic disease. Removing that extra fluid can relieve swelling and make breathing easier.

Torsemide tablets are also used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events, including strokes and heart attacks. It can be used alone or alongside other blood pressure medications.
