Haloperidol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can inhibit CYP2D6.

Here's the gist with tree turmeric (berberine) and haloperidol (Haldol). Your body relies partly on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to clear haloperidol out of your system. Berberine appears to slow that enzyme down, so haloperidol could clear more slowly and build up a bit higher than expected. Haloperidol is an active drug, not a prodrug, so more in your blood means stronger effects, including drowsiness, dizziness, muscle stiffness, restlessness, or those uncontrollable movements doctors call extrapyramidal symptoms.

That said, this interaction is mostly theoretical and based on lab work plus limited human data, so it may not happen for everyone. Still, please don't start or stop anything on your own. Run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear haloperidol out. The berberine in tree turmeric can partly block that enzyme. When that pathway slows down, more haloperidol can linger in your system, which may nudge its effects and side effects upward.

For haloperidol, that could mean more drowsiness, dizziness, muscle stiffness, restlessness, or those uncomfortable involuntary movements it's known for. This is rated probable, though the size of the change in real people isn't fully pinned down. Food amounts of turmeric spice aren't the concern here; concentrated berberine supplements are. Please don't change anything on your own. Loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining these so they can watch you closely.

Haloperidol is used to manage symptoms of psychotic disorders and to control the tics and vocal outbursts of Tourette's disorder in both children and adults.

In children, it is also used for severe combative or explosive behavior problems, and for hyperactivity with conduct disorders — but only when other treatments like therapy or non-antipsychotic medications have not worked.
