Lansoprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Uva Ursi interacts with.

Theoretically, uva ursi may decrease the metabolism of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit cytochrome CYP2C19. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for lansoprazole (Prevacid): your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C19 to clear it. In lab dish studies, uva ursi seems to slow that same enzyme down. If that held true in people, lansoprazole could break down a bit slower and build up, which might mean stronger effects or more side effects like headache, nausea, diarrhea, or belly discomfort.

The good news is this is only a theoretical concern so far, seen in test tubes and not in real patients, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Uva ursi itself is only meant for short-term use anyway. Still, it's worth a quick word with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Here's the gist for Prevacid (lansoprazole): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 (along with a few others) to help clear it out. In lab dish studies, uva ursi seemed to slow that enzyme down a bit. If that held true in real people, your body would break lansoprazole down a little slower, so slightly more could hang around. In theory that might mean more of its usual effects, like headache, belly upset, or diarrhea.

The honest part: this is only a test-tube finding and hasn't been seen in actual patients, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Lansoprazole is also pretty forgiving and not a narrow-window drug. Still, since uva ursi is meant only for short-term use, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist before pairing the two.

Uva ursi is a traditional herb used mainly for urinary tract infections, and its leaves contain a compound called arbutin that may have antimicrobial effects in the urine. Evidence in people is limited, and because high doses or long-term use may be harmful to the liver and could be toxic, it should only be used short-term and with guidance from a healthcare professional. Avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

What Is Lansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Prevacid

Lansoprazole is prescribed for a range of conditions where excess stomach acid is the problem. It treats active stomach and duodenal ulcers (sores in the stomach or upper small intestine), helps heal ulcers caused by NSAID pain relievers, and can reduce the risk of those ulcers coming back.

It's also used for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis (acid damage to the esophagus), and rare conditions where the stomach makes far too much acid — like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. When combined with antibiotics, it helps wipe out H. pylori bacteria that cause recurring ulcers.
