Here's the gist if you enjoy yerba mate while using albiglutide (Tanzeum) for type 2 diabetes. Albiglutide isn't broken down by a liver enzyme the way many pills are, and it's an injection that mimics your body's own incretin hormones. So yerba mate doesn't really change how the medication itself is processed. The concern is more roundabout: the caffeine in mate may nudge blood sugar slightly up or down, which could make your numbers a little harder to predict.

Honestly, this is a theoretical, minor concern based on weak evidence, and it's unlikely to cause trouble for most people. A casual cup or two is generally fine. If you drink a lot of mate or notice unusual highs, lows, or shaky/sweaty spells, just check in with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
