Buproprion, Dextromethorphan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Yerba Mate interacts with.

Theoretically, yerba mate might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that yerba mate extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking yerba mate may increase levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

Auvelity combines bupropion and dextromethorphan, and the bupropion piece actually boosts dextromethorphan levels on purpose by slowing one liver enzyme. The concern on file is different: yerba mate may gently block another enzyme, CYP3A4, that helps process these drugs. In theory, that could let levels drift a little higher, which might mean more dizziness, dry mouth, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or a faster heartbeat. The extra caffeine in mate can add to that restless, wired feeling too.

Honestly, this is a minor, theoretical worry based only on lab studies, so a normal cup or two probably won't cause problems. Still, if you load up on concentrated mate supplements or feel extra keyed up, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
