Yerba mate contains caffeine. Caffeine is reported to have antiplatelet activity. Theoretically, it might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with these agents; however, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: Cablivi (caplacizumab) already lowers your blood's ability to form clots, since that's how it treats aTTP. Yerba mate contains caffeine, and in lab studies caffeine has shown some mild blood-thinning (antiplatelet) activity. The theory is that stacking the two could nudge your bleeding risk a little higher.

I want to be honest with you: this concern comes only from test-tube and animal research, and it has never actually been reported in people. A few cups of mate are unlikely to be a big deal. Still, while you're on Cablivi, watch for things like easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that won't stop. Since aTTP is serious and closely managed, please check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding regular mate or caffeine supplements.

What Is Caplacizumab-yhdp Injection Used For?

Brand name: Cablivi

  • Caplacizumab-yhdp injection is used to treat acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (aTTP; a disorder in which the body attacks itself and causes clots, low amounts of platelets and red blood cells, and could cause other serious complications) in combination with plasma exchange therapy and immunosuppressant medications. Caplacizumab-yhdp is in a class of medications called antithrombotic agents. It works by blocking the action of a certain substance in the body that causes the symptoms of aTTP.
