Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
BENZODIAZEPINES
Why this applies to Estazolam
Estazolam falls under BENZODIAZEPINES — the group Yerba Mate interacts with.
Yerba mate contains caffeine. Caffeine can antagonize the anxiolytic effects of benzodiazepines.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: estazolam (Prosom) is a benzodiazepine you take to help you fall and stay asleep. Yerba mate is a caffeinated drink, and caffeine is a stimulant that works against the calming, sleepy effect of estazolam. So if you sip mate close to bedtime, it could partly cancel out the medicine and make it harder for it to do its job, leaving you tossing and turning.
To be fair, this is a theoretical concern based on how the two work, not strong proof from studies. Still, it makes good sense to avoid mate in the evening so it doesn't fight your sleep aid. If you enjoy yerba mate regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can help you time things well.

About Yerba Mate
What is Yerba Mate?
- Energy and alertness
- Weight loss
- Mental focus
- Digestive support
- Antioxidant support
Yerba mate is a caffeine-containing herbal beverage from South America that is widely enjoyed for its stimulating, coffee-like effects. While it is rich in antioxidants and is being studied for weight, blood sugar, and cholesterol, strong human evidence for most health claims is limited. Drinking very hot mate over many years has been linked to higher risk of certain cancers, so enjoy it warm and in moderation.
About Estazolam
What Is Estazolam Used For?
Brand name: Prosom
Estazolam tablets are used for the short-term management of insomnia — specifically trouble falling asleep, waking up frequently during the night, and waking too early in the morning.
Because insomnia is often temporary, long-term use of estazolam is generally not recommended. If sleep problems last beyond 7–10 days of treatment, a doctor should evaluate whether an underlying medical or psychiatric condition is causing them.
