Here's the gist with your Divitren (estradiol plus medroxyprogesterone): the estrogen part can slow down how your body clears caffeine. Since yerba mate is a caffeine source, that caffeine may hang around longer and hit a little harder than usual.

In practice, that mostly means you could feel more of the typical caffeine effects: jitteriness, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling on edge, especially if you drink a lot of mate. Note that this is largely a theoretical concern, and a cup or two probably won't be a big deal for most people. The hormone medicine itself still works fine. If mate suddenly seems to wind you up more than before, ease back and chat with your pharmacist or doctor.

Theoretically, yerba mate might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that yerba mate extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Theoretically, taking yerba mate may increase levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the gist of this one. Your hormone combo (estradiol with medroxyprogesterone) gets processed in the liver by an enzyme called CYP3A4. Some lab studies suggest yerba mate may slow that same enzyme down a little. In theory, that could let a bit more estrogen and progestin linger in your system, which might nudge up estrogen-type side effects like breast tenderness, bloating, nausea, or headaches.

The reassuring part: this is only based on test-tube research, not real people, and it's rated as a minor interaction. A few cups of mate are very unlikely to cause trouble. If you drink it heavily or use concentrated mate supplements, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how you feel.
