Almotriptan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, use of chanca piedra might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with almotriptan (Axert): your body partly uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this migraine medicine out. In lab dish studies, chanca piedra appears to slow that same enzyme down. So in theory, pairing the two could let almotriptan linger a bit longer than usual, which might nudge up its effects and side effects, things like dizziness, drowsiness, flushing, nausea, or a tight feeling in the chest or throat.

I want to be honest here: this is theoretical. It comes from test-tube research only and has never actually been reported in people, so it may not amount to much in real life. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you also take other medicines.

About Almotriptan

What Is Almotriptan Used For?

Brand names: Axert, Almogran

Almotriptan tablets are used to treat migraine headache attacks — with or without aura — as they happen. They are not for preventing migraines before they start.

In adults, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine attacks. In adolescents ages 12 to 17, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine headache pain in those who typically have attacks lasting 4 hours or more when untreated. Note that in adolescents, the effect on migraine-related symptoms such as nausea and light sensitivity was not established in clinical trials. Almotriptan is not indicated for cluster headache or for hemiplegic or basilar migraine.
