Amlodipine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, use of chanca piedra might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for you. Your body clears amlodipine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube studies, chanca piedra appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that held true in people, your amlodipine could clear more slowly and build up a bit, which might nudge its blood-pressure-lowering effect higher than expected.

What would that look like? Possibly more of amlodipine's usual side effects, such as ankle swelling, flushing, dizziness, or feeling lightheaded when you stand up. I want to be honest though: this is theoretical and based only on lab work, not real patients, so it may never amount to anything. Still, since both can affect blood pressure, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chanca piedra with antihypertensive drugs might have additive blood pressure lowering effects.
Animal research suggests that chanca piedra can decrease blood pressure. However, this effect was not observed in most hypertensive patients treated with chanca piedra for 10 days.

Here's the simple version: chanca piedra may have a mild blood pressure lowering quality of its own. Since amlodipine already relaxes your blood vessels to bring your numbers down, putting the two together could, in theory, nudge your pressure a little lower than amlodipine alone. If that happened, you might notice dizziness, lightheadedness (especially when standing up quickly), or feeling unusually tired.

The good news is that this concern is mostly theoretical. It comes from animal studies, and in one small human study people taking it for 10 days didn't actually see a meaningful drop. So for most folks it's unlikely to cause trouble. Still, if you check your blood pressure at home, keep an eye on it, and chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding chanca piedra.

About Amlodipine

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Norliqva

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
