Lurasidone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, use of chanca piedra might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: your body relies heavily on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear Latuda (lurasidone) out of your system. Lab studies suggest chanca piedra can slow that same enzyme down. If that happens in real life, lurasidone could build up to higher levels than intended, which may mean more of its usual side effects, things like drowsiness, dizziness, restlessness, muscle stiffness, or feeling lightheaded when you stand.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This is only seen in test-tube research, and it has not been reported in actual people, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Lurasidone is a sensitive CYP3A4 drug, so before combining the two, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor. Please don't change your dose on your own.

About Lurasidone

What Is Lurasidone Used For?

Brand name: Latuda

Lurasidone hydrochloride tablets are approved to treat schizophrenia in adults and adolescents aged 13 to 17, and to treat depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder (bipolar depression) in adults and children aged 10 to 17. Latuda is one of the brand names under which lurasidone is available as a tablet.

For bipolar depression, lurasidone can be used on its own (monotherapy) in adults and pediatric patients aged 10 to 17, or used alongside lithium or valproate (adjunctive therapy) in adults.
