Pitolisant Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, use of chanca piedra might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with Wakix (pitolisant) and chanca piedra. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear pitolisant from your body. In lab (test tube) studies, chanca piedra seems to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, your body might clear pitolisant a little more slowly, so it could build up and push its effects a bit higher.

For pitolisant, that might mean more of its known side effects, like headache, trouble sleeping, nausea, anxiety, or a faster heartbeat. The honest part: this is only a theoretical concern from laboratory data, and it hasn't been seen in people. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, rather than guessing.

What Is Pitolisant Used For?

Brand name: Wakix

Wakix (pitolisant) is used to treat two hallmark problems of narcolepsy: excessive daytime sleepiness (feeling overwhelmingly tired and unable to stay awake during the day) and cataplexy (sudden episodes of muscle weakness or loss of muscle control, often triggered by emotion). It is approved for adults and children 6 years of age and older.

Both uses are specific to Wakix tablets taken by mouth. The drug is not approved for sleepiness or cataplexy caused by conditions other than narcolepsy.
