Trabectedin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Chanca Piedra interacts with.

Theoretically, use of chanca piedra might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that chanca piedra extract inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, chanca piedra might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the short version: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear trabectedin (Yondelis) out of your system. In lab dish studies, chanca piedra appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that held true in people, trabectedin could build up to higher levels than intended, which may mean stronger side effects like nausea, fatigue, low blood counts, or liver enzyme changes that your oncology team already watches closely.

I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This concern comes only from test-tube research and has never been reported in real patients, so it's theoretical. Even so, trabectedin is a serious chemotherapy drug, so don't add chanca piedra without first clearing it with your oncologist or pharmacist.

What Is Trabectedin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Yondelis

Yondelis (trabectedin injection) is used to treat adults with liposarcoma or leiomyosarcoma — two types of soft tissue sarcoma (cancer of connective tissue) — when the cancer cannot be removed by surgery (unresectable) or has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic). It is indicated for patients who have already received a prior treatment regimen containing an anthracycline (a type of chemotherapy).
