Theoretically, ephedra might decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Some animal research suggests that ephedra induces CYP1A2 and increases the clearance of CYP1A2 substrates such as caffeine.

Here's the gist for your birth control pill (Lybrel). Some animal studies hint that ephedra may speed up a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which could make your body clear certain medications a bit faster. In theory, that could lower the amount of hormone (the ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel) circulating in your system. If hormone levels dip too low, the worry is reduced contraceptive protection or breakthrough bleeding and spotting.

I want to be honest though: this is based only on lab and animal data, so it's mostly theoretical for your pill. The bigger concern, frankly, is that ephedra is banned in the U.S. and carries real heart and blood pressure risks. Please skip it, and chat with your pharmacist or doctor about safer options.

Here's the concern with combining ephedra and your birth control pill (Lybrel, which is ethinyl estradiol plus levonorgestrel). Both can put stress on the liver. Estrogen-containing pills occasionally affect liver function, and ephedra-containing products have been tied to a number of real cases of liver injury. Put them together and the worry is that the strain could add up.

I'll be honest: this is mostly a theoretical, pharmacology-based caution, not something proven in studies. Still, ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements for good reason, including its link to high blood pressure and stroke. I wouldn't use it at all. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor about safe, approved choices before making any changes.
