Liraglutide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Ephedra interacts with.

Theoretically, taking ephedra with antidiabetes drugs might interfere with blood glucose control.
One study in animals shows that some components of ephedra may lower blood glucose levels. However, most human research suggests that ephedra and ephedrine, a component of ephedra, can raise blood glucose levels and might decrease the effectiveness of drug therapy. Monitor blood glucose concentrations closely.

Here's the thing to know about pairing ephedra with liraglutide (Victoza). Liraglutide isn't a prodrug, so this isn't about one changing how the other is broken down. Instead, it's a tug-of-war on your blood sugar. Liraglutide works to bring your glucose down, but the stimulants in ephedra (ephedrine and pseudoephedrine) tend to push blood sugar up. That can blunt how well Victoza controls your numbers.

In plain terms, your readings could run higher than expected, which makes your diabetes harder to manage. Beyond that, ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements because it can dangerously raise blood pressure and strain the heart, which is the opposite of what you want when treating type 2 diabetes. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor about safer, approved options.

What Is Liraglutide Injection Used For?

Brand name: Victoza

Saxenda is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for chronic weight management. It is approved for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher if they also have at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or dyslipidemia (abnormal cholesterol or fat levels). It is also approved for adolescents aged 12 and older who weigh more than 60 kg and meet certain BMI thresholds for obesity.

Saxenda should not be used together with other liraglutide-containing products or any other GLP-1 receptor agonist. Its safety and effectiveness in combination with other prescription or over-the-counter weight-loss products have not been established.
