Why this applies to Propranolol Hydrochloride

Propranolol Hydrochloride falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Hordenine interacts with.

Hordenine weakly inhibits cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) enzymes in vitro. Theoretically, hordenine might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
Some of drugs that are CYP2D6 substrates include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.

Here's the gist: your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear propranolol from the body. In lab dishes, hordenine appears to weakly block that enzyme. In theory, slowing this clearance could let a bit more propranolol build up. Since propranolol is an active drug (not a prodrug that needs switching on), more in the system would mean a slightly stronger beta-blocker effect, things like a slower heart rate, lower blood pressure, lightheadedness, or tiredness.

That said, this is based only on test-tube data and the blocking effect is described as weak, so a real problem in people is unlikely. Keep in mind propranolol oral solution is prescribed for infants, who shouldn't be given a stimulant supplement like hordenine anyway. If you're considering combining these, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Propranolol (Infantile Hemangioma) Used For?

Brand name: Hemangeol

This intravenous (IV) form of propranolol is used in hospital settings to treat serious, life-threatening heart rhythm problems. It works on several types of abnormal rhythms, including those that happen during anesthesia or are caused by drug toxicity.

Specific uses include fast heart rhythms coming from the upper chambers of the heart (supraventricular tachycardia), dangerous rhythms caused by too much digitalis in the body, and certain fast rhythms triggered by excess stress hormones (catecholamines) during surgery.
