Why this applies to Venlafaxine

Venlafaxine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Lentinan interacts with.

Laboratory research suggests that lentinan might increase the activity of cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for a decrease in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 in patients taking lentinan.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 include tricyclic antidepressants such as imipramine (Tofranil) and amitriptyline (Elavil); antipsychotics such as haloperidol (Haldol), risperidone (Risperdal), and chlorpromazine (Thorazine); beta-blockers such as propranolol (Inderal), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), and carvedilol (Coreg); tamoxifen (Nolvadex); and others.

Here's the gist for venlafaxine (Effexor). Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help process this medicine. Lab research hints that lentinan might speed that enzyme up. If that happened in real life, your body could clear venlafaxine a bit faster, which in theory might lower its levels and make it work less well. You could notice your depression or anxiety symptoms creeping back, or feel less benefit overall.

I want to be honest about the evidence here, though. This comes only from test-tube and animal studies, and it has not been seen in actual people. So this is more of a theoretical heads-up than a proven problem. Still, if you decide to try lentinan, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how you're doing.

Venlafaxine is used to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) across all available formulations. Extended-release capsules (including Effexor XR) are also approved for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), and panic disorder (PD).

Extended-release tablets are approved for major depressive disorder and social anxiety disorder. Immediate-release venlafaxine tablets are indicated for major depressive disorder only.
