CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Alfentanil
Alfentanil falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Rauvolfia Vomitoria interacts with.
Rauvolfia vomitoria has sedative effects in animal research.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Alfentanil (Alfenta) is a strong opioid painkiller, usually given through an IV during surgery or procedures. One of its main effects is slowing down the brain and the drive to breathe. Rauvolfia vomitoria contains reserpine and related alkaloids that can also have a calming, sedating effect on the nervous system.
The concern here is simple: stacking two things that both make you drowsy could lead to more sedation, deeper sleepiness, and slower breathing than expected. That said, this warning is theoretical and comes mostly from animal studies, not strong human data. Since alfentanil is given in a monitored medical setting, your care team should know about any supplements you take. Please don't combine these without talking to your doctor or pharmacist first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Alfentanil page
“Alfentanil (Alfenta) is a potent, fast-acting opioid, usually given during surgery, and that potency is why this page deserves genuine care rather than a passing glance.
